BLUE NOTE IN MY SONG
WORDS AND MUSIC BY JAMES MORRISON
I sit alone just playing my guitar
Strumming chords, my mind goes back so far
Back to the day when our love was so strong
You’re gonna be the blue note in my song
CHORUS
You’re gonna be the blue note in my song
I don’t understand what i’ve done wrong
I have been awake the whole night long
You’re gonna be the blue note in my song
When i met you it was a summer’s dream
The notes were clear and simple, pure and clean
Your love grew cold the harmony was wrong
You’re gonna be the blue note in my song
Love’s a song we’re singing all the time
When things go right the lyrics seem to rhyme
But now i know this melody’s too long
You’re gonna be the blue note in my song

DARLIN IT’S TIME TO GO
Words & Music by Olive Kristine Howe & Rene' Miller
CHORUS
Darlin i packed your bags
It’s time for you to go
Darlin’ it’s time for you to go
I packed your bags and said
Get up out of my bed
Darlin’ it’s time for you to go
I know dear you’ve cheated and you’ve lied
All by my lonesome self i cried
You’ve done it all before
I can’t take this anymore
You broke my heart
Now get on out that door
I caught you with another on the town
You promised me you’d always be around
Well i called when it was late
What could i do but wait
A cheatin’ heart is something i can’t take
You came to me when you were all alone
I gave you my heart and a home
You don’t remember when
Our love was new back then
There’s no way to do this over again

JUST THE BLUES TO ME
Words & Music by James Morrison
I gave you all the love that I had, and all I got back was the blues
You messed with my head and played me in bed for a fool
Now you know you’ve stolen my soul and you’ve knocked me off my feet
Playing your games, driving me insane, I can’t sleep.
CHORUS
You can break my heart leaving, you can punish me by staying
You can freeze on earth or burn in hell it's just the same to me.
You can blow my mind by cheating, so my message needs repeating,
You can freeze on earth or burn in hell it’s just the blues to me.
You love me all day and all through the night,
and then you grow cold for a week
Don’t know where I stand, don’t know why you ran from me
My mind’s not right and my body’s uptight
and you’ve brought me to my knees
I’m a hungry ghost lovin’ you the most, I can’t breathe.
CHORUS Dreaming softly into the night and I think I’m holding you close
You threw me a bone, now I’m all alone with the blues
Don’t know what to do, hell is loving you
and you’ve cut my heart in two
So just go away, and here I will stay with the blues.
CHORUS

I’M WALKING BACK
Words & Music by Tom Harmon
I'm walking back to Tennessee all alone
My girl has left me and now I have no home.
I never dreamed you'd lose that look in your eyes
But I think of all the good times, I only see lies.
I'm thinking back now on the good times we had.
I know she loved me but now its all gone bad.
I know the love we had was so hard to find
and now she's gone and I'm losing of my mind.
Chorus:
This isn't something that happens every day.
And when I think of all the love we threw away
All I see now are the birds up in the sky
They're happy and all they do is fly
I'm walking back to Tennessee all alone
You've lost that feeling and now I'm on my own.
I never thought I'd lose a love that was so true.
But now someone else is holding you.
Maybe some day, you’ll see this through my eyes.
In the middle of the night you’ll awake and then you’ll realize
The love we had comes but once in a life
Think about it darlin, it won’t happen twice

LONESOME BLUES
Words & Music by Herb Pederson
I got those lonesome blues tonight
Won't you stay and be my friend that's what I need
Someone to hold me tight tell me it's all right
I got the lonesome blues tonight
I got the lonely blues tonight
Maybe I can find the time I'll try to be
The one you miss tonight make you feel all right
I got the lonely blues tonight
I got the cold, cold blues tonight
Won't you try to understand if I can be
With someone else tonight when we dim the lights
We’ll lose those cold, cold blues tonight
I got the lonesome blues tonight
Won't you stay and be my friend that's what I need
Someone to hold me tight tell me it's all right
I got the lonesome blues tonight

MAGGIE MAY
Words & Music by Rod Stewart, arranged by James Morrison
Wake up Maggie I think I got something to say to you
It’s Late September and I really should be back in school
I know I keep you amused, but I feel like I’m being used
Oh, Maggie, I couldn’t have tried anymore
You lured me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my heart and that’s what really hurt
The morning sun, when it’s in your eyes, really shows your age
But that don’t worry me none in my eyes you’re everything
I laughed at all of your jokes, my love, you didn’t need to coax
Oh, Maggie, I couldn’t have tried any more
You lured me away from home just to save you from being alone
You stole my heart and that’s a pain I could do without
All I needed was a friend to lend a guiding hand
But you turned into a lover and, brother, what a lover, you wore me out
All you did was wreck my bed and in the morning kick me in the head
Oh, Maggie, I couldn’t have tried any more
You lured me away from home “cause you didn’t want to be alone
You stole my heart, I couldn’t leave you if I tried
I suppose I could Collect my books and get on back to school
Or steal my daddy’s cue and make a living out of playing pool
Or find myself a Bluegrass band that needs a helping hand
Oh, Maggie, I wish I’d never seen your face
You made a first class fool out of me but I’m as blind as a fool could be
You stole my heart but I love you anyway

MY DADDY
Words & Music by Tom Harmon
As I look back, I realize
It must have been 1925,
When my Daddy packed his bag
All he had was a few old rags
He must have wondered long and hard
Which direction and how far?
Would he turn around and head back east?
or maybe north to where the cold rains never cease.
And so the story goes I'm told.
first Model T coming down the road,
heading out to California
where the sun shines every day.
He liked the idea of staying dry.
Maybe settle down and live his life
build a home for his kids and wife.
Work very hard and make it it turn out right
CHORUS:
Obsession can make you turn your head
I tried to hear the words he said
But now much further on down the road,
I see his dream was that you reap, just what you sow.
And as he stood there waiting for a ride,
his vision of the future came into sight.
I can't help but think he had great hopes
a world thats one and diverse and somehow both.
And as he stood there on that old dirt road.
The worlds' future began to unfold.
Oh how I wish I could see through his eyes.
My Daddy's gone now but his dream survives.

PT CRUISER
Words & Music by James Morrison
It’s a Friday afternoon in the middle of June
The kids don’t have be back in school ‘till the fall
But my work year is done and now I’m on the run
I hit the highway, I can hear it call
CHORUS:
So I’m driving up the coast in my P.T. Cruiser
Winding up Highway One, having fun
I’m gonna meet up with the band in Monterey Bay
With a whole lot of Bluegrass music to play
Call my man from the highway, he won’t see it my way
He says “you old fool, you’d better act your age!”
But it feels so right, and I’ll be home on Monday night
Got my fiddle, my guitar and I’m out of my cage
CHORUS
Well the banjo’s a frailin’ and the fiddle is a wailin’
And I’m gonna sound like Mr. Bill Monroe
The big bass is hummin’ and the guitar is strummin’
We knock ‘em dead out on Canery Row
Then it’s back to the highway, time, it seems to fly away
We really rock out in Pacific Grove
Then it’s back down to Morro Bay, where I finally him from, today
I’m driving home in the sweet morning glow
CHORUS
So I’m driving down the coast in my P.T. Cruiser
Flying down Highway One, having fun
I met up with the band in Monterey Bay
With a whole lot of Bluegrass music to play

SLOW DOWN
Words & Music by James Morrison
It was four AM when I pulled in, half asleep at Seven-Eleven,
Poured a cup of “J”, and I’m on my way,
Rushing through the rest of the day
Working two jobs straight, gonna get home late,
To keep the bank away from my door
Then I come home to you, feeling tired and blue,
And this is what you say.
CHORUS:
You gotta slow down, slow down, stress is gonna take you down,
I’d like to kick you in the head.
All the run around, run around, is gonna put you in the ground,
You ain’t no use to me dead.
So I turn on the tube, sink into a groove,
And fall asleep in my Lazy-Boy chair
I begin to snore, and you slam the door,
You say you can’t take it anymore.
So I stagger into bed, body feels like lead,
And I dream I’m on a run away train
Then it’s up before dawn, ‘cuz I gotta move on,
And start all over again.
It was four a.m. when I pulled in
All alone at Seven-Eleven
Poured a cup of “J” at the break of day
Watched my life slippin’ away
The kids have left home, and we’re all alone
It’s you and me the rest of our days
So I come home to you , lookin’ old and blue
And this is what you say

SPEND A LITTLE TIME WITH ME
Words & Music by Tom Harmon
I know you got a lot on your mind dear
And it all seems to be weighting you down
I know you’ve got a heavy load on your shoulders
All you need is some time and you’ll come around.
Sometimes the world seems so dreary.
And your choices seem so few.
Put your little head in your hands dear.
All you need is a some time to think it through.
CHORUS:
Right now you don’t know which way to turn to
Hope seems too far away to see
Darkness is every which way you turn
Why don’t you spend a little time with me?
I’m not going to try to change you
Maybe at half speed
you can see the swirl that’s spinning you round.
I’m not going to change your mind
You know each one of your alibis.
You’re so set in your ways, dear.
You just can’t tell the truth from the lies.
CHORUS:
But how many lies do you have to live
before you see that you’re not free
So turn around and look or your shoulder,
Come here & spend a little time with me.

TEARDROPS UPON MY LACE
Words & Music by Olive Kristine Howe
CHORUS
There’s a part of my heart that looks like roses
The kind you left me on that day
At the alter the petals unfolded
Just like teardrops upon my lace
I can hear your sad expression
Saying Darling I love you no more
Petals dropping in quick succession
As you sailed for golden shores
My Father swore that he would find you
And in his anger he did thus
And when he found you he’d seek an answer
Why you’d left in such a rush
CHORUS
My Father came home and he told me
He had found you in a foreign land
Where your time was almost over
There’s an illness and all is sad
You couldn’t tell me at the altar
You’d only known a day or two
The petals of the rose have fallen
Now they mark the grave of you
CHORUS
